Synonyms

Beta-2 Transferrin; Cerebrospinal fluid leakage; Tau protein; CSF specific transferrin

Useful For

Indication of CSF leakage

Clinical Utility

ß2 transferrin is the desialylated form of transferrin that is present in large proportion in CSF and perilymph. The presence of ß2 transferrin is nasal or ear secretions is indicative of CSF leakage. Prompt diagnosis and localization facilitates appropriate decisions and decreases the risk of meningitis.
