About Anatomic Pathology

Anatomic Pathology is the branch of medicine that studies the effect of disease on the structure of body organs, by examining them for abnormalities. The primary role of Anatomic Pathology is to render a diagnosis that will form the cornerstone of a patient’s treatment plan.

ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY SERVICES

Stanford’s Anatomic Pathology group offers expert diagnoses across all subspecialties of pathology. Our faculty members have deep expertise in their respective subspecialties but also maintain a strong working relationship with the other subspecialties within the department. This collaborative environment means that a case is often reviewed by a team of experts, both within the subspecialty and by pathologists in other relevant services.

In addition to providing services for the patients of Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health, our faculty provides consultative services to pathologists around the world who seek assistance with challenging cases. Stanford’s Anatomic Pathology division collectively diagnoses many cases per year. We have deep subspecialty knowledge in the following areas:

Autopsy Pathology

Cytopathology

Dermatopathology

Hematopathology

Neuropathology

Ophthalmic Pathology
