About Anatomic Pathology
Anatomic Pathology is the branch of medicine that studies the effect of disease on the structure of body organs, by examining them for abnormalities. The primary role of Anatomic Pathology is to render a diagnosis that will form the cornerstone of a patient’s treatment plan.
ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY SERVICES
Stanford’s Anatomic Pathology group offers expert diagnoses across all subspecialties of pathology. Our faculty members have deep expertise in their respective subspecialties but also maintain a strong working relationship with the other subspecialties within the department. This collaborative environment means that a case is often reviewed by a team of experts, both within the subspecialty and by pathologists in other relevant services.
In addition to providing services for the patients of Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health, our faculty provides consultative services to pathologists around the world who seek assistance with challenging cases. Ancillary Testing
Stanford Pathology relies on a suite of ancillary testing offerings to support our expert diagnosis. We practice judicious use of ancillary testing on a case-by-case basis and will only recommend the testing necessary to adequately assess the case. Our highly specialized staff performs a wide variety of routine and esoteric testing.

Education: Residencies and Fellowships
Anatomic Pathology Residency Programs
Stanford Pathology offers a 3-year Anatomic Pathology residency and 4-year combination residencies in Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology/Neuropathology.
Clinical Fellowships
Stanford offers several ACGME-accredited Fellowships across a range of sub-specialties, including breast, cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecology, hematopathology, neuropathology, pediatric pathology, renal pathology and surgical pathology.
