Is it possible for Stanford to bill the patient’s insurance for services rendered?

Stanford Health Care Lab's standard practice is to bill charges to the referring Provider or Facility for tests ordered. In some cases, SHC Lab may be able to bill the patient's insurance provider for tests, to see if your account is eligible for this 3rd party billing, please contact: ClinOpsContracts@stanfordhealthcare.org.

Does Stanford accept out-of-state insurance?

Stanford does not accept healthcare insurance outside of the State of California.

Can Stanford bill for non-patient cases such as research and clinical trial cases?

For internal research or clinical trials, please reach out to ClinOpsContracts@stanfordhealthcare.org. For external research or clinical trials, please complete our Laboratory Testing Intake Form.

How do I know if my patient’s insurance is accepted by Stanford?

Please see our list of accepted insurances. As each insurance plan differs, and plans offered by the same insurer may have different levels of coverage, we suggest contacting the insurance company directly to confirm status. You may be asked for our group NPI or Tax ID.

Can I get a price list for Stanford’s Pathology and Lab Services?

I have a question about a bill for services. Who should I contact?

For bills from SHC Reference Lab please call 1-877-235-4347 or the lab customer service line at 1-877-717-3733. For physician services bills, please email: labprobilling@stanfordhealthcare.org

I’m interested in sending cases or reference lab testing to Stanford. How do I get set up for billing?

Please fill out the Pathology & Clinical Lab Request Intake Form.

Coverage for testing and cases at Stanford Health Care is determined by the patient’s insurance company and is based on the provisions of the specific plan.

As each insurance plan differs, and plans offered by the same insurer may have different levels of coverage, we suggest contacting the insurance company directly to confirm status. You may be asked for our group NPI or Tax ID.

Stanford’s Pathology and Lab Services involve two separate components. The first is the technical services related to processing the testing and the second is the professional services related to the physician work of interpreting those results and rendering diagnoses. Our physicians and hospital technical services each have an NPI and Tax ID number:
